To Greeks, religon was very important. They became famous for their myths and their creative mindset. The Greeks also had many festivals. The olympics were actually a big religous festival to celebrate the great god Zeus. The Greeks were famous for their plays, and they invented drama and theatre as well as democracy. Weddings: The way Greeks celebrated marriage was mainly the Athenian way, in which the ceremony took place after dark. The veiled bride would travel from her home to the groom's home in a chariot. The family followed her on foot, carrying gifts. The friends of the bride and groom took place in front of the chariot, lighting the way and scaring away evil spirits.During the ceremony, the bride would eat an apple or another piece of fruit to signify that all food and basic needs would now come from her husband. Funerals: The Greeks also believed in an afterlife, and they held ceremonies to resemble funerals. The Greeks believed that when a person dies, their spirit leaves their body in a puff of air. Then the body was washed, dressed and anointed with oils to prepare for their burial ceremonies. Primarily, women conducted the funeral ceremonies, which can be broken into three parts, the ekaphora, the interment and the actual burial or cremation.
